[Public Officials' Assets] Average 1.215 Billion KRW for Daegu Metropolitan and Basic Local Government Heads and Metropolitan Council Members

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Young-wook] The average assets reported this year by 39 individuals, including Daegu metropolitan and basic local government heads and metropolitan council members, amounted to 1.215 billion KRW, showing an increase of 76 million KRW compared to the previous year's reported amount.
According to data released on the 26th by the Government Officials Ethics Committee, Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin reported assets totaling 1.814 billion KRW under his and his spouse's names, an increase of 108 million KRW from the previous year.
Daegu City Council Chairperson Bae Ji-sook reported 3.679 billion KRW, which is 118 million KRW more than the previous year.
The average reported assets of 28 Daegu city council members were 1.146 billion KRW. Council member Song Young-heon reported the highest amount at 6.237 billion KRW, while Council member Kim Kyu-hak reported the lowest at 26 million KRW.
The average reported assets of heads of the eight districts and counties were 1.291 billion KRW, with Dalseong County Chief Kim Moon-oh reporting the highest at 3.541 billion KRW, and Dalseo District Chief Lee Tae-hoon reporting the lowest at 355 million KRW.
Among metropolitan and basic local government heads and metropolitan council members subject to reporting by the Government Officials Ethics Committee, 33 individuals (85%) showed an increase in assets. Six individuals (15%) showed a decrease. Council member Lee Si-bok's assets increased by 858 million KRW, while Council member Kim Jae-woo's assets decreased by 1.099 billion KRW.
The total average assets of 111 district and county council members under the jurisdiction of the Daegu City Public Officials Ethics Committee and seven heads of related public organizations amounted to 823 million KRW, an increase of 51 million KRW compared to the previous year.
Among district and county council members, Buk-gu Council member Cha Dae-sik reported the highest assets at 5.4 billion KRW, while Buk-gu Council member Park Jeong-hee reported the lowest at -99 million KRW.
By asset size, 49% (58 individuals) of the disclosure subjects reported assets under 500 million KRW. Those who reported assets of 2 billion KRW or more accounted for 10% (12 individuals).
The Daegu City Public Officials Ethics Committee stated, "We plan to review until the end of June and take corrective actions or impose fines if any false or incorrect reports are found."

Daegu City Auditor Shin Tae-gyun said, "We will operate the asset registration and review system more strictly in the future to establish public ethics trusted by citizens."
