Gwangju Nam-gu Temporarily Operates 'Internet Book Reservation' at 3 Public Libraries
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 25th that, due to the prolonged temporary closure of district-run libraries caused by COVID-19, it will operate an internet book reservation and lending service that allows users to borrow books the next day when they apply for book loans online, to alleviate the inconvenience of library users.
Since the 23rd, the internet book reservation and lending service has been temporarily operated at three district-run libraries: the Cultural Information Library, Pureungil Library, and Youth Library.
This service is available to users registered as members of the district-run libraries, and can be accessed by logging into the Nam-gu Integrated Library website and using the internet book reservation and lending service.
Residents wishing to borrow books can apply for book loans on the Nam-gu Integrated Library website between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays, and receive the books between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. the following day.
For example, if you want to receive a book on the 27th, you must apply in advance by 5 p.m. on the 26th, one day prior.
This internet book reservation and lending service will be temporarily operated until the temporary closure of district-run libraries ends.
However, to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and minimize contact, book pickup locations are limited to designated places at each library.
For the Cultural Information Library, books can be picked up next to the return box at the second-floor entrance; at Pureungil Library, at the book cafe; and at the Youth Library, at the first-floor lobby.
Additionally, applicants not wearing masks will not be allowed to borrow books, and books can only be borrowed after a temperature check and use of hand sanitizer.
Proxy pickup is prohibited, so borrowers must bring both their ID and membership card, and if books are not collected on the pickup day, the loan will be invalidated.
Furthermore, during this period, new membership registrations and membership card reissuance at district-run libraries will not be processed.
A Nam-gu official stated, “As the temporary closure of libraries has been prolonged, there have been numerous requests to allow residents to borrow books, which led to the introduction of the internet book reservation and lending service. Although the library doors are closed, residents can borrow books without worry.”
