Shinhan Financial Group Raises 1.4 Billion Won for COVID-19 Relief Campaign
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Shinhan Financial Group announced on the 24th that it successfully raised 1.4 billion KRW in just 20 days through the 'Hope Together Campaign' to help citizens struggling due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Shinhan Financial is conducting the campaign with a goal of raising a total of 5 billion KRW through a social donation project in collaboration with all group companies and the crowdfunding platform Wadiz. As of the 23rd, more than 2,900 donors, including Shinhan Financial Chairman Cho Yong-byeong and Shinhan Bank President Jin Ok-dong, as well as Shinhan Financial employees, have participated in the first fundraising phase, which runs until May 13.
In particular, separate from the relay donations from Shinhan Financial group companies, the Shinhan Bank personal group donated 200 million KRW from Medical Loan profits to support medical staff in Daegu. Shinhan Investment Corp. contributed 40 million KRW through employee salary rounding donations (Moamoa Happy), Orange Life donated 100 million KRW, the Shinhan Bank retirees' association Dongwoohoe and The Bank Shinhan Dongwoohoe donated 20 million KRW, and the Shinhan Bank S-Bird basketball team donated 5 million KRW to join the effort.
On this day, Shinhan Financial delivered 500,000 items including daily necessities kits for medical staff working hard to overcome COVID-19 in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions, and meal boxes for underprivileged children as the first project of the campaign.
From June 16, the second fundraising will be conducted to revitalize the local economy and support underprivileged groups. The funds raised through the second funding, which runs until May, will be used entirely to purchase Onnuri gift certificates, which will be distributed to underprivileged groups to stimulate the local economy.
