Measures Against 'Sexual Exploitation' in Nth Room Case, Full Committee Meeting of Science and ICT Committee to Be Convened
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] The National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Communications Committee (STIBC) is pushing to convene a plenary session to devise countermeasures against the N-bunbang case.
On the 23rd, Roh Woong-rae, chairman of the STIBC and a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated, "We will push to convene a plenary session to prevent recurrence."
According to materials submitted to Roh Woong-rae's office, the Korea Communications Standards Commission took corrective actions against 215 Telegram and Discord group chats related to the Telegram 'N-bunbang' case throughout this year. This involved review and self-regulation measures for 198 Telegram chats and 17 Discord chats.
The Commission requested self-regulation directly from Telegram for 143 of the 198 Telegram group chats related to illegal filming, which were identified through victim reports and monitoring. For the remaining 55 cases where self-regulation was not implemented, corrective action requests were made. Additionally, for Discord, another overseas messenger where illegal filming was distributed in a manner similar to the Telegram 'N-bunbang', 8 cases were subject to self-regulation requests and 9 cases to corrective action requests.
Chairman Roh emphasized, "The government and service providers must strengthen public-private cooperation and devote all efforts to prevent the occurrence of second and third N-bunbang victims," adding, "As the chairman of the relevant standing committee, I will push to convene a plenary session of the National Assembly's STIBC to establish strong measures to prevent recurrence."
