Heo Seok, Suncheon Mayor, Donates 10 Million Won to Community Chest of Korea
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Heo Seok, mayor of Suncheon, announced on the 24th that he personally donated 10 million won to ignite the spark of the ‘Suncheon-style Gwonbun Movement’ he proposed to citizens to overcome COVID-19.
In early March, Mayor Heo introduced the virtuous custom of ‘Gwonbun (權分),’ where local magistrates in the Joseon Dynasty encouraged the wealthy to share their wealth to help the extremely poor, during an executive meeting, and proposed the ‘Suncheon-style Gwonbun Movement,’ gaining public sympathy.
On the 23rd, Mayor Heo took the first step of the ‘Suncheon-style Gwonbun Movement’ by delivering 1,000 ‘Gwonbun packages’ and donated 10 million won of his own money to the Community Chest of Korea, playing the role of pouring the primer to continue the movement.
Mayor Heo said, “I hope that the social leaders take the lead to create an opportunity to look after neighbors suffering from COVID-19,” and urged, “Let’s widely spread the Gwonbun Movement and together build a warm and livable Suncheon filled with a loving community.”
