Extended Closure of Daycare Centers Due to Prolonged COVID-19... Dongjak-gu Supports Parents and Childcare Staff
Role-Playing Activity Materials Distributed Online, Dongjak-gu Childcare Teachers Conduct 3G Project... Emergency Care Available Without Restrictions… Public Library Reserved Book Loan Service Implemented
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) is taking measures to support children enrolled in daycare centers, their parents, and childcare staff in the district due to the extended closure of daycare centers aimed at preventing the community spread of COVID-19.
With the prolonged closure of daycare centers until April 5, fatigue from home childcare for parents and children, as well as increased burden on childcare teachers due to emergency care, are on the rise.
Accordingly, the district distributed 'Home Play Activity Kits' to families during the first closure period until the 22nd, and with the extension of the closure, it has upgraded educational materials and is providing additional support for home childcare.
First, for children enrolled in local daycare centers and their parents, the district has produced ▲10 types of parent education materials and ▲play activity materials such as 'Squishy Clay Play Method' that can be used during home childcare. These can be downloaded from the Dongjak-gu Childcare Support Center website or distributed through daycare center Kids Notes for use.
An online event will also be held for families who share joyful play moments.
For childcare staff, the 3G Project (▲Psychology G-Won ▲Capacity Building G-Won ▲Mind G-Won) will be implemented to relieve stress and enhance capabilities.
Psychology G-Won supports MBTI personality type testing; Capacity Building G-Won provides online educational information and holds a contest for creating UCCs on coronavirus prevention guidelines. Mind G-Won plans to produce and distribute videos featuring selected supportive messages from childcare staff through a comment event.
Detailed event information can be found on the Dongjak-gu Childcare Support Center Instagram account (@dccic2006).
Children requiring emergency care during the closure period can receive unlimited support, including meals and snacks, and daily training on behavioral guidelines for staff to alleviate parents' concerns.
Additionally, the district is thoroughly disinfecting facilities such as local children's centers and Our Neighborhood Kiwoom Centers that provide emergency care, emphasizing compliance with work rules for employees.

Furthermore, to support students staying at home due to closures and delayed school openings, the district is implementing a reserved book lending service at public libraries. After making a reservation on the Dongjak-gu public library website, users can pick up books at designated libraries, minimizing face-to-face time between users and staff.
Kim Kyungok, Head of the Childcare Division, said, "In line with the rigorous social distancing measures to end COVID-19, we aim to support a childcare environment where parents, children, and staff can feel safe," and added, "We ask for voluntary participation in refraining from unnecessary outings and adhering to personal hygiene rules until the 5th."
