Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Joins Hands
20-30% Cheaper Than Market Price
Helping Farms Struggling Due to COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] 11st, together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, is helping distribute eco-friendly agricultural products whose sales channels have been blocked due to the suspension of school meals following the nationwide delay of elementary, middle, and high school openings.
On the 24th at 12 noon, 11st will sell 6,000 sets of eco-friendly vegetables and fruits intended for school meal supply in 'bundle' form through the 'Emergency Supply' section, priced about 20-30% cheaper than the market price.
The 'Vegetable & Fruit Package' (3.5kg), consisting of eco-friendly potatoes, carrots, sweet potatoes, jujube cherry tomatoes, and ripe tomatoes, is offered at 19,900 KRW; the 'Fruit Package' (4kg), containing eco-friendly pears, apples, and tomatoes, is priced at 23,900 KRW. The 'Vegetable Package' (1.5kg), including eco-friendly lettuce, mallow, Swiss chard, spinach, cucumber, green onions, and perilla leaves, is sold for 14,900 KRW.
In particular, the packages focus on 10 items that have poor storability and are mainly produced in spring, which have suffered significant damage. These come from various production areas nationwide, including potatoes from Changwon, green onions from Hongseong, spinach from Taean, cucumbers from Gongju, tomatoes from Nonsan, and carrots from Jeju.
Im Hyejin, MD of the New Product Planning Team at 11st, explained, “After seeing news that many farms are struggling due to the lack of sales channels for eco-friendly agricultural products for school meals caused by the delay in school openings, we planned this sale in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the agricultural cooperatives supplying school meals. Considering that farmers are not familiar with selling on online malls, 11st directly took product photos and created the sales pages to support them.”
Additionally, 11st lowered the sales commission for these products to about half to help the farmers. 11st plans to hold additional events depending on the farmers' situation until the opening of elementary, middle, and high schools.
Park Junyoung, Head of the Strategic Business Group at 11st, said, “The first sale of 3,000 sets of ‘Eco-friendly School Meal Agricultural Products’ on the 18th sold out in about three hours, showing strong customer interest, so we urgently prepared more stock. We aim to support farmers struggling due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and provide customers with high-quality domestic eco-friendly agricultural products.”
