Russia Sends Military Medical Personnel and Experts to Assist Italy

In response to the massive casualties caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Italy, specialized military personnel, including medical staff and units focused on viruses and infectious diseases, will be sent.
According to Interfax news agency on the 22nd (local time), after a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, Putin ordered the Russian military to support Italy. The Russian military decided to provide experts and disinfection equipment to help Italy, which is suffering from COVID-19, via air transport.
The scale of support includes medical teams specialized in viruses and infectious diseases consisting of eight groups, medical equipment, and disinfection vehicles. In addition, a unit of about 100 personnel specialized in viruses and infectious diseases will also be dispatched.
According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, Italy is currently experiencing the worst crisis with 59,138 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 5,476 deaths. Due to the rapid increase in patients, there is a shortage of both doctors and medical supplies.
