Seongnam City Provides 400,000 Won 'Living Safety Fund' to Households Below 100% Median Income
[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province will provide an average of 400,000 KRW in emergency living security funds to households with "median income below 100%" to overcome the crisis caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Seongnam City announced on the 23rd that it plans to provide 300,000 KRW for 1-2 person households, 400,000 KRW for 3-4 person households, and 500,000 KRW for households with 5 or more members as living security funds in May.
The support targets 168,171 households with a budget of 67.3 billion KRW. The support funds will be provided in the form of local currency, Seongnam Sarang Gift Certificates, or debit cards.
The city will also support 50,893 children aged 7 to 12, who are not eligible for child allowance (ages 0-6), with 100,000 KRW per month for 4 months, totaling 400,000 KRW as "emergency childcare support." Payments will begin in May with a budget of 20.4 billion KRW.
For 597 daycare centers struggling with operational difficulties due to prolonged closures, 30 million KRW per center, totaling 1.8 billion KRW, will be provided.
For 1,500 corporate taxi drivers facing difficulties due to a decrease in taxi passengers, consolation money of 100,000 KRW per month for 4 months, totaling 600 million KRW, will be paid.
Businesses that have closed or suspended operations due to visits from confirmed COVID-19 patients will receive an emergency support of 1 million KRW. Currently, about 100 such businesses have been identified.
To provide emergency support, the city plans to allocate 47 billion KRW from the disaster management fund, 35 billion KRW from net surplus funds, and 10 billion KRW from contingency funds, and will consult with the city council to convene a one-point extraordinary session for the supplementary budget approval.
