[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] On the 23rd, Kim Junsung, the mayor of Yeonggwang County, announced at the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters meeting that he will return 30% of his salary from this month until June to share the pain caused by COVID-19 and overcome the crisis.
According to the county on the 23rd, this is in line with the intention to join the salary return initiative involving President Moon Jae-in, vice ministers-level officials, and the governor of Jeollanam-do, to fully overcome the difficulties faced directly and indirectly by vulnerable groups across society and to revitalize the depressed local economy amid the COVID-19 crisis.
Measures to revitalize the local economy include encouraging the use of local stores, extending special incentives for the Yeonggwang Love Card, and implementing comprehensive support plans for small business owners this year, such as support for youth startups and management stabilization funds.
Additionally, efforts are being made to proactively respond to COVID-19 by prioritizing the distribution of 70,000 masks to low-income groups.
