View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] KCC will launch its official 'YouTube' channel in the first half of this year. This is part of a strategy to make the younger generation, who consume a lot of video content through digital media such as YouTube, perceive KCC as an interesting and likable company.
KCC's strategy is also an effort to shed its rigid corporate image focused on B2B (business-to-business) transactions and showcase a young and flexible corporate culture. While KCC's main businesses are B2B, including architectural interior materials, paints, and silicone, it is striving to expand its brand value through digital marketing, which allows rapid information dissemination and immediate feedback, to raise awareness of the company and its products among people in their teens and twenties.
KCC expanded communication with customers by opening its official blog 'KCC Magazine' and official Facebook page in 2018. Last June, the advertisement video titled 'Why Are You There, Hyung?' featuring sports star Park Chan-ho as a model went viral with over 4.32 million views on YouTube, becoming a hot topic among netizens. The decision to launch an official YouTube channel was influenced by the positive effects experienced from previous digital corporate advertising.
Contrary to his seemingly taciturn appearance, Park Chan-ho, nicknamed 'Too Much Talker' due to his talkativeness, appeared in a witty 4-minute and 30-second KCC advertisement that helped increase the company's likability. The company evaluated that this advertisement significantly boosted KCC's favorability among young job seekers and enhanced its image as a preferred employer.
KCC's newly released advertisement video last November, titled 'KCC, Leaping Forward as a Global Materials Company,' also recorded over 2 million views on YouTube. It contributed to raising public expectations that KCC, familiar for building materials and paints, will play a leading role in the market as a global materials company.
This advertisement was produced with the concept 'Human footprints left on the moon for the first time in history head toward KCC.' The bottom of the space suit that left humanity's trace on the moon contains the technology of GE Silicone, the predecessor of Momentive Performance Materials. KCC acquired the global American silicone company Momentive last year.
A KCC official said, "The advertisement featuring Park Chan-ho, 'Why Are You There, Hyung?' opened new possibilities for digital advertising and created a strong connection to KCC by linking the core elements of 'Too Much Talker' into a story. We will actively carry out activities to provide customers with experiences that allow them to empathize with the company or brand KCC not through information but through emotional storytelling."
