Candidate Park Si-jong Disputes 'Re-election Results'... Requests Reconsideration
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Park Sijong, a preliminary candidate who lost to Min Hyungbae in the Democratic Party re-election for Gwangsan-gu (Eul), Gwangju Metropolitan City, has filed an appeal against the re-election results.
On the 23rd, Park held a press conference at the Gwangju Metropolitan Council and raised suspicions of illegal leakage of the list of party members with voting rights by preliminary candidate Min Hyungbae.
He stated, “Before the re-election, preliminary candidate Min sent a message titled ‘To party comrades’ to party members who had never received a text message,” adding, “There is even a report that a party member who had never received a message even once during Min’s two terms as district mayor received a message for the first time two days before the re-election.”
He continued, “The party members who received the text messages are newly registered members around July last year, and most of them are members registered with Park Sijong as their recommender, so verification was possible,” and argued, “This is a serious matter fundamentally different from former preliminary candidate Kim Sungjin’s excessive list inquiries, as it is impossible to check the list unless Min’s method was illegal, as he previously stated.”
He also emphasized, “More than 300 people have been confirmed so far, and a significant number of them were party members who had never received Min’s messages before the re-election,” adding, “Therefore, it should be seen that preliminary candidate Min secured an additional list before the re-election.”
Park said, “Unless the list was leaked from the Gwangju Metropolitan Party or the central party, there is no way to know the list at least within the scope of what I know,” and added, “It seems that even the tendencies of the party members have been analyzed.”
He also mentioned illegal election campaigning using SNS.
Park stated, “When Min was the regional committee chairman, he promoted himself on numerous SNS platforms created to communicate with party members,” and argued, “The problem is that such SNS promotions are posted under the official name ‘Gwangsan Regional Committee.’”
He continued, “This is no different from the party-level election campaigning for Min Hyungbae,” emphasizing, “It is a serious illegal election campaign and unfair.”
