President Moon's approval rating at 49.3%... Highest this year recorded [Realmeter]
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] A public opinion poll revealed that President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for his administration has risen significantly, reaching the highest level this year.
According to Realmeter, which conducted the survey on behalf of YTN from the 16th to the 20th, the positive evaluation of President Moon's administration increased by 2.1 percentage points from the previous week's aggregate to 49.3%, announced on the 23rd. The negative evaluation dropped by 1.2 percentage points to 47.9%. This marks the first time in 10 weeks that positive evaluations have surpassed negative ones.
By region, approval mainly rose in Gwangju-Jeolla (73.2%→76.6%) and Gyeonggi-Incheon (51.2%→54.5%). By political party support, it increased among the People Party supporters (11.8%→26.1%) and Justice Party supporters (59.3%→72.5%). Additionally, it rose among the non-affiliated group (6.3%p↑, 25.0%→31.3%).
By ideological inclination, the centrist group (40.1%→44.7%) showed an increase, and by occupation, the labor sector (41.8%→46.5%) mainly saw a rise.
This rise in approval ratings is analyzed to be due to the government's effective response to the recent novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In fact, looking at daily data, on the 18th, when President Moon emphasized the 'national solidarity' to overcome COVID-19, and on the 19th, when he presided over the first emergency economic meeting, positive evaluations rose sharply. The daily approval rating on the 19th recorded an increase of 4.3 percentage points to 52.8%.
