"'Underage Sexual Exploitation' Nth Room Suspect Identity Disclosure Demand... Cheong National Petition Reaches 1.85 Million, 'Record High'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sun-hee] A Blue House petition requesting the public disclosure of the identity of Jo, who is accused of producing and distributing sexual exploitation materials of minors using the internet messenger Telegram, has gained over 1.87 million supporters as of the afternoon of the 22nd, setting a record for the highest participation ever.
According to the Blue House website, the petition titled "Please disclose the identity of the Telegram Nth Room suspect and make him stand on the photo line" had received 1,872,500 supporters as of 4:30 PM on the same day. This is the highest number of participants since the launch of the national petition system under the Moon Jae-in administration. The record was set in just over four days since the petition was raised on the 18th. The petition will continue until the 17th of next month.
The previous record for the most participants was a petition submitted last year requesting the dissolution of the Liberty Korea Party, which garnered a total of 1,831,900 supporters.
The petitioner demanded the disclosure of Jo’s identity, stating, "Please make the perpetrator, who drove others into shame and pushed young students into hell, stand on the photo line," and "Please do not let him cover his face with a hat or mask under any circumstances."
Jo, in his twenties, is accused of sharing sexual exploitation materials involving minors through Telegram chat rooms. He appeared under the name "Doctor’s Room" in September last year.
Jo allegedly lured victims by offering part-time jobs and other bait, obtained nude photos showing their faces, and then blackmailed them into producing sexual exploitation materials. He is accused of distributing these materials to paid members in the Doctor’s Room. The number of paid members in the Doctor’s Room is estimated to be in the tens of thousands. Jo was arrested by the police on the 16th.
The police plan to hold a "Personal Information Disclosure Review Committee," composed of three internal members and four external members, to decide whether to disclose Jo’s identity.
Meanwhile, another Blue House petition demanding the disclosure of identities of others who used sexual exploitation materials through the same chat room has also received over one million supporters.
