Italy nears 50,000 COVID-19 cases... 627 deaths in one day
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Italy's confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) are approaching 50,000. The number of deaths has also increased by more than 600 in a single day.
Spain's confirmed cases have also surpassed 20,000, while Germany is on the verge of entering the 20,000 range.
According to Johns Hopkins University in the U.S. on the 20th (local time), Italy's confirmed COVID-19 cases stand at 47,021. The death toll has risen to 4,032.
The number of deaths increased by 627 in one day. The fatality rate, which represents the cumulative deaths relative to the cumulative confirmed cases, is 8.57%. This is eight times higher than South Korea's rate of 1.08%.
Spain reported 20,410 confirmed cases and 1,043 deaths. Both the number of confirmed cases and deaths have exceeded 20,000 and 1,000 respectively.
