Exemption from Reserve Forces Training in Daegu and Other Regions
[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] This year, reserve forces training will be exempted in the Daegu, Cheongdo, Gyeongsan, and Bonghwa areas.
On the 20th, the Ministry of National Defense announced, "Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), reserve forces training this year will be exempted in areas designated as special disaster zones."
Training for reservists assigned to regions and workplaces within the special disaster zones will be exempted. The reserve forces units and local Military Manpower Administration offices will verify residency in the special disaster zones and take appropriate measures.
Reserve forces involved in COVID-19 related medical support will also be exempted from training. Reservist military doctors, public health doctors, and nursing officers who have participated in medical support through recruitment by the Ministry of Health and Welfare or individual participation will be exempted from this year's reserve forces training for the duration of their medical support involvement.
Applicants must submit supporting documents issued by the Ministry of Health and Welfare or local governments to the reserve forces units.

Previously, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Ministry of National Defense postponed the start of this year's reserve forces training nationwide twice. Originally scheduled to begin on June 2, the training was first postponed to April 17, and then postponed again to June 1. In areas outside the special disaster zones, reserve forces training is scheduled to begin as planned on June 1.
