Nowon-gu Prepares Planned Lectures Including Eco Center Bapsang School
Bapsang School, Jeongwon Playground, Sanse Bapsang, Natural Dyeing Class: All 4 Programs... Programs Held from April to December at Nowon Eco Center and Everyone's Garden in Front of the Center... Registration Starts on the 25th of This Month, Operation Period and Participation Fee Vary by Course
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) has prepared a series of planned lectures at the Nowon Eco Center for a diverse range of residents, from toddlers to seniors.
The courses include four programs: ‘Table School Enjoyed in the Garden’ (for seniors), ‘Four Seasons Garden Playground’ (for elementary students), ‘Twelve Months Mountain Bird Table’ (for toddlers and their guardians), and ‘Natural Dyeing Class’ (for adults).
First, there is the ‘Table School Enjoyed in the Garden.’ Participants make dishes using seasonal ingredients such as shepherd’s purse soybean soup, vegetable pancakes, lotus leaf rice, and herb sandwiches, while also engaging in theoretical lessons on gardening activities like tending vegetable gardens, preparing fields, sowing seeds, and planting seedlings.
The course runs from April to November, every Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m., for a total of 13 sessions.
The target participants are 20 residents aged 60 or older who can participate in gardening activities. The participation fee is 60,000 KRW. Participants should bring hats, gardening gloves, aprons, and wear comfortable clothing.
Next is the ‘Four Seasons Garden Playground.’ This program is for 20 elementary school students and runs twice a month on Thursdays from 3 to 5 p.m. between April and July, totaling 8 sessions.
The program includes ▲planting vegetable gardens ▲making insect hotels ▲ecological mimicry technology ▲food making ▲natural dyeing ▲the importance of water ▲night insect exploration, with a participation fee of 10,000 KRW.
‘Twelve Months Mountain Bird Table’ is designed for 10 families with toddlers aged 3 to 7 and their guardians. From Samjinnal on April 17 to Dongji on December 18, the program runs 8 times at 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering experiences and play activities aligned with the seasonal solar terms.
Food experiences include ▲making azalea flower pancakes ▲making Ipap gangjeong (a traditional sweet) ▲making songpyeon (rice cakes) ▲making red bean porridge. Play activities according to the seasons include ▲water welcoming ▲Ganggangsullae (traditional circle dance) ▲kite making. The participation fee is 30,000 KRW per family. Participants should bring utensils, mats, aprons, and extra clothes.
The last program is the Natural Dyeing Class. Under the theme ‘Capturing the Colors of Nature,’ it covers ▲basics of dyeing ▲dye plants ▲planting dye plant seedlings ▲dyeing methods. Practical sessions include dyeing silk scarves, single-layer blankets, and traditional fabrics using onion skins, safflower, raw indigo, fermented indigo water, ochre, eucalyptus, and more.
This course runs once a month on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. between April and November, totaling 8 sessions. It is open to 12 adults, with a participation fee of 140,000 KRW including material costs.
Registration for these courses opens on the 25th of this month on the Nowon Eco Center website on a first-come, first-served basis. The classes will be held at the Nowon Eco Center and the Everyone’s Garden in front of the center.
Established in 2012, the Nowon Eco Center provides environmental education to 22,000 children and adolescents annually and offers knowledge about renewable energy sources such as geothermal, solar power, and solar heat.
