Two COVID-19 Cases Confirmed in Gangnam-gu Residents Returning from the UK and the Philippines
A 60-year-old American woman living in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu visited her daughter in London, UK from February 16 to March 14 and arrived at Incheon Airport on the 14th afternoon on an Asiana flight from London... A 44-year-old man living in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu went on a business trip to Manila, Philippines from the 10th and returned.
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Two residents of Gangnam-gu who recently visited the UK and the Philippines were confirmed positive for COVID-19 on the 19th.
Jung Soon-gyun, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated at a briefing on the 19th, "A 60-year-old American woman living in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, visited her daughter living in London, UK, from February 16 to March 14. She returned on the 14th by Asiana Airlines flight from London to Incheon Airport. From the day after her arrival, she experienced mild headaches and muscle pain, and on the afternoon of the 18th, she developed a high fever of 38.9℃."
The woman took antipyretic and pain relief medication after returning home. On the 17th, after seeing news that a person in their 20s who was on the same flight had tested positive, she visited the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center on the 18th for a specimen test, which came back positive on the morning of the 19th.
According to the Incheon Quarantine Station, the woman was seated three rows behind the 20-something confirmed patient on the plane.
Also, a 44-year-old man living in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, went on a business trip to Manila, Philippines, from the 10th. He returned on the morning of the 14th by Asiana Airlines flight at 5 a.m. After developing body aches and a high fever of 38.1℃ from the 16th, he visited the drive-through testing site at Jamsil Sports Complex on the morning of the 18th. His test result came back positive that afternoon.
During his business trip in the Philippines, the man stayed at a hotel in downtown Manila and met with 4 to 5 local business associates for meals. He refrained from sightseeing and other outside activities as much as possible but was still confirmed to be infected with COVID-19.
As of the 19th, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines is 202.
Gangnam-gu has hospitalized the two confirmed patients in isolation and identified 36 contacts, including family members, who have been placed under self-quarantine. Disinfection has been carried out in the apartments and movement paths of the two patients, and specimen tests are being conducted on nearby apartment residents and coworkers.
