[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the United Future Party, said on the 19th, "Politics is a promise. Breaking a promise is trampling on human dignity."
In a post on his Facebook that day, Hwang said, "Watching politicians easily break promises, I vow to myself to make promises as heavy as a rock and as humble as wild grass."
He added, "Looking at the residents of Jongno near me, I reconsider politics," and "I feel that politics is more needed in the ordinary daily lives of residents and in small alleys than in political parties and the National Assembly. I realize that politics is more urgently needed for the socially and economically vulnerable."
He continued, "However, politics is not visible where it is truly needed," emphasizing, "Because politics easily breaks promises made here and to these people, neglecting people's livelihoods."
Hwang concluded his post by saying, "These days, I also make promises to the residents of Jongno. I will diligently fulfill my promises without any falsehood."
Earlier that day, at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly, Hwang commented on the nomination results of the Future Korea Party, a satellite party for proportional representation of the United Future Party, saying, "Considering the importance of this election, we cannot overlook this lightly. A firm decision is necessary."
