Lotte Delivers Food Kits to 3,700 Children
Prioritizing Child Protection Amid Isolation Crisis
Providing Grocery Kits Equivalent to About One Month's Meals
Rapid Support Through Assessment of Children in Crisis
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Lotte Group announced on the 19th that it will deliver grocery kits to the homes of over 3,700 children nationwide who are facing care gaps and isolation crises. This measure is in response to the full closure of child welfare facilities to prevent the spread of COVID-19, leaving children unable to use these facilities and isolated at home.
On the 26th of last month, Lotte decided to provide support worth a total of 1 billion KRW to prevent the spread of COVID-19, with a particular focus on children who are in welfare blind spots. After announcing this support plan, Lotte first provided meals and hygiene products to 500 children in Daegu who required urgent assistance, then, together with the Green Umbrella Child Fund, began assessing the closure status of regional child centers and child welfare facilities nationwide as well as the situation of children in crisis. After completing the composition and production of the grocery kits, they plan to deliver kits to the homes of a total of 3,700 children nationwide by the end of this week.
The kits include hygiene products such as hand sanitizer and wet wipes, instant rice and side dishes, semi-prepared foods like rice bowl dishes, soups, and Korean street food that can be easily cooked, as well as snacks. They are designed so that children can have lunch for about one month without using welfare facilities.
Through the 'Mom-pyeonhan' project, Lotte has been engaged in various activities to improve child care environments such as community childcare sharing centers and regional child centers. Even amid the COVID-19 crisis, Lotte prioritizes support and protection for children, ensuring that assistance goes beyond mere financial aid to effectively reach those in real need.
