Samsung Electronics Launches 2020 QLED TV New Models... 3.49 Million to 19.4 Million KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Samsung Electronics announced on the 19th that it will launch the 2020 QLED 8K TV new models in the domestic market, enhancing picture quality, design, and sound.
Samsung Electronics has doubled the number of QLED 8K TV models this year to a total of nine compared to the previous year, expanding consumer choices. The product price range also varies from 3.49 million KRW (QT800, 55-inch) to 19.4 million KRW (QT950S, 85-inch) based on the suggested retail price.
The 2020 QLED 8K is composed of three series?QT950S, QT900S, and QT800?according to design and specifications, offering various screen sizes including 85, 82, 75, 65, and 55 inches. The 55-inch model is scheduled to be released within the first half of this year.
The biggest feature of the 2020 QLED 8K is the 'Infinity Screen,' which minimizes the boundary inside and outside the screen to maximize immersion. This design is applied to the higher-end models QT950S and QT900S, with a bezel thickness of only 2.3mm, allowing 99% of the TV's front area to be used as a screen. The suggested retail prices for the top lineup QT950S with Infinity Screen are 19.4 million KRW for 85 inches, 13.9 million KRW for 75 inches, and 9.2 million KRW for 65 inches.
Samsung QLED 8K's core technology, the 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) Quantum Processor 8K,' has evolved further. The AI Quantum Processor 8K is Samsung's proprietary AI-based upscaling technology that converts input video to ultra-high definition optimized for 8K TVs regardless of the resolution. In the 2020 models, it completes the screen more precisely at the pixel level rather than the scene level. Additionally, the 'AI Control' feature is applied, enabling the TV to automatically implement optimal brightness and sound. This function analyzes each scene based on AI and considers the ambient lighting of the space where the TV is located, supporting the best picture quality in any viewing environment.
The new models also feature the newly developed 'AI Quantum Sound' using AI technology, which is noteworthy. This feature is also applied to the new QLED 4K QT95, QT90, and QT80 series. The 2020 QLED 4K consists of five series?QT95, QT90, QT80, QT70, and QT60?offering a wider range of screen sizes including 85, 82, 75, 65, 55, 50, and 43 inches, introducing a total of 21 new models. The top model QT95 series is priced at 10.5 million KRW for 85 inches, 6.8 million KRW for 75 inches, and 4.69 million KRW for 65 inches.
Han Jonghee, President of Samsung Electronics and Head of the Visual Display Business, said, "The reason we have been able to maintain the No. 1 position in the global TV market for 14 consecutive years is because we have pursued consumer-centered innovation," adding, "This year, we will transform the TV market by providing consumers with a different level of viewing experience centered on the 2020 QLED 8K."
