Dobong-gu 'Closing the Distance of Hearts' Campaign
Making Check-in Calls to Neighbors, Sharing the "Closing the Distance of Hearts" Campaign on SNS, Greeting with Masks to Shift the Withdrawn Social Atmosphere... From February, Monitoring Weekly Check-in Calls Three Times for About 1,800 Vulnerable People... Emergency Food Delivery Starting on the 16th to 200 Vulnerable Elderly Among Nutritional Porridge Recipients
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Amid the ongoing social distancing campaign to prevent COVID-19 infection, Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin) is conducting a ‘Narrowing the Distance of the Heart’ campaign to keep emotional closeness despite physical distancing.
As the COVID-19 situation prolongs, the number of people suffering from depression and stress due to reduced social activities is increasing. Additionally, home visits to vulnerable households have been suspended to prevent community spread, making it urgent to check on the well-being of the elderly and caregiving households and to prevent solitary deaths.
To address this, the district is warming the subdued social atmosphere through the ‘Narrowing the Distance of the Heart’ campaign by encouraging △making phone calls to neighbors to check on them △sharing the campaign on SNS △wearing masks and greeting others warmly.
The ‘Narrowing the Distance of the Heart’ campaign was created with the purpose of overcoming difficult times together by having residents such as the local Community Security Council, private welfare base institutions, Sharing Neighbors and Sharing Stores, and Our Neighborhood Care Group?who are well aware of local circumstances?call neighbors in need, greet them brightly with masks instead of handshakes, and share the campaign images on SNS.
In particular, since February 1, about 100 members of ‘Our Neighborhood Care Group’ and visiting nurses in each neighborhood have been making phone calls to check on the well-being of approximately 1,800 vulnerable individuals, including elderly living alone, middle-aged single-person households, and low-income households with severe illnesses. Currently, through thrice-weekly phone monitoring, they are confirming the health status of these vulnerable households and maintaining continuous connection activities to prevent social isolation.
Moreover, as the delivery of nutritious porridge has been suspended, the district surveyed those at risk of missing meals and has been sequentially delivering emergency food packages consisting of instant rice, canned goods, and seasoned seaweed to 200 vulnerable elderly individuals through the Dobong Food Market since the 16th, ensuring their meals and health.
