View original image[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] The Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) has blocked access to a YouTube video by Kim Heung-gwang, head of the NK Intellectuals Solidarity, which raised suspicions that the government might have given masks to North Korea.
On the morning of the 18th, the KCSC held an emergency meeting and decided that the requested YouTube video by the Ministry of Unification was a "false post that could cause social confusion."
The video titled "What’s going on? Masks are sold out in the South but overflowing in the North?" contained claims that "If you look closely at the masks worn by North Korean residents, they are high-quality masks produced by companies such as Yuhan-Kimberly."
In the video, Kim Heung-gwang stated, "South Korea has not officially provided masks to North Korea," and claimed, "When South Koreans were not interested in masks, a huge amount of Korean-made masks went to North Korea via China."
In response, the KCSC judged that the video violated Article 8, Clause 3 of the Information and Communications Review Regulations, which prohibits "information likely to cause significant social confusion," and issued a correction order.
