One Dead and Four Seriously Injured in Unlicensed Traffic Accident Involving Teenage High School Dropout
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] A car driven by an unlicensed teenager overturned on Yeongjongdo Island in Incheon, resulting in one death and four serious injuries.
The Jungbu Police Station in Incheon announced on the 18th that a K5 vehicle carrying five teenagers crashed into a breakwater and overturned on Yeongjonghaeanbuk-ro in Unseo-dong, Jung-gu, Incheon, causing one fatality and four injuries.
At the time, the K5 passenger car was traveling from Sammok Ferry Terminal on Yeongjongdo Island toward Eulwangri Beach. While changing lanes from the second lane to the first lane, the car slipped, crossed the center line, crashed into the coastal barrier, and then overturned after hitting a roadside tree as a second impact.
As a result of the accident, A (17), who was seated in the back seat, died, and B (17) and C (18), who were also in the car, were seriously injured.
Additionally, the driver D (17) and the front passenger E (18) were seriously injured and were transported to the hospital by 119 rescue workers who arrived at the scene.
They are seniors and juniors living in the Siheung area of Gyeonggi Province, all five were unlicensed, and it was confirmed that they had not consumed alcohol.
D is a high school dropout, and the other four are high school students.
The police believe they borrowed the car through a senior they usually knew and went to Yeongjongdo in Incheon for a trip, but caused the accident due to inexperienced driving.
