[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Big data analysis results have shown that the floating population in the Daejeon area decreased and commercial district sales also sharply declined due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
According to the analysis by the Big Data Team of the Informatization Officer of Daejeon City on the 18th, after the first COVID-19 confirmed case occurred in the region, the average daily floating population from February 22 to 27 last month decreased by 18.7% compared to the same period from February 22 to 27 the previous year, and commercial district sales also dropped by 27.3%.
This is the result of the Big Data Team's analysis based on credit card payment amounts during the corresponding period.
After the first confirmed case, the total floating population in Daejeon averaged 23,006,229 people daily, down 18.7% from 28,304,020 people the previous year.
In particular, the floating population around the representative commercial district near Daejeon City Hall decreased from 447,179 to 286,405, indicating the severe damage to the local commercial district caused by COVID-19.
