Iran Reports 988 Deaths from COVID-19... Confirmed Cases Reach 16,169
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The number of deaths from the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Iran has reached 988.
On the 17th (local time), the Iranian Ministry of Health announced that the number of COVID-19 deaths increased by 135 compared to the previous day as of noon. Since the first two deaths in Iran on the 19th of last month, the death toll has significantly increased in just 27 days.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose by 1,178 to 16,169. The total number of recovered patients reached 5,389, showing a recovery rate of 33.3%.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "To prevent the spread of COVID-19, a National Coordination Committee chaired by the Vice President and a National Science Committee under the Ministry of Health and Medical Education have been organized, and national-level response measures are being established and implemented."
