Daily Online Gugak Concert 'Ilil Gugak' at 11 AM on Weekdays
National Gugak Center Service Starts from the 17th... Talk Concert 'Sarangbang Junggye' Every Saturday at 3 PM
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The National Gugak Center launched the Gugak performance video concert "Daily Gugak," which is presented every weekday at 11 a.m. through the National Gugak Center’s website, YouTube, and Naver TV, on the 17th.
The National Gugak Center explained that in response to the recent spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), they planned the "Daily Gugak" content to provide safe opportunities to experience gugak in various ways and to offer performance opportunities to artists. Users can enjoy a special viewing experience that was not possible in the audience seats through high-quality gugak performance videos produced in 4K ultra-high definition.
"Daily Gugak" is composed of small-scale chamber music, solo performances, and solo dances, allowing audiences to engage more deeply with gugak pieces. Performers will also provide commentary introducing each piece to help audiences understand more easily. Additionally, the program conveys messages of encouragement to overcome COVID-19 and various messages of resilience through gugak.
March’s "Daily Gugak," consisting of 11 episodes, features high-quality performance videos by the National Gugak Center’s Jeongakdan (court music orchestra) and Minsokakdan (folk music orchestra). Starting with the lively "Namdo Sinawi," it includes "Cheonnyeonmanse," wishing for a thousand-year-long life, "Sujecheon," considered the pinnacle of Jeongak, and "Jongmyo Jeryeak," Korea’s representative intangible cultural heritage. It also features major sections of the five pansori repertoires, as well as Gayageum and Daegeum sanjo, delivering the essence of traditional gugak.
In April, the program will expand beyond Jeongak and Minsokak of March to include traditional dance and creative gugak, presenting a more diverse gugak experience. It will showcase bright and lively performances such as "Buchaeeipchum" (Fan Dance) and the cheerful "Taepyeongmu," as well as the exciting "Seoljangu" and "Gayageum Byeongchang" to invigorate the hearts of the weary public. Special stages will also be presented featuring Jeongak, Minsokak, and creative gugak with solo performances on the piri, daegeum, geomungo, and gayageum, allowing audiences to appreciate the elegance of pungnyu (traditional Korean artistic taste).
Along with the "Daily Gugak" service, the National Gugak Center plans to continuously provide online gugak performance content by presenting the gugak talk concert "Sarangbang Junggae," which will be live-streamed online every Saturday at 3 p.m. from March 28 to April 25.
