Preliminary Candidate Lee Gang-rae Holds Meeting with Namwon City Daycare Center Association
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Lee Kang-rae, the Democratic Party preliminary candidate for Namwon, Imsil, and Sunchang, held a meeting with officials from the Namwon City Daycare Center Association on the 17th to listen to difficulties in daycare center operations.
At the meeting, Choi Seong-hwan, president of the Namwon City Daycare Center Association, and other officials requested the "realization of standard childcare fees" and the "integration of the management departments of kindergartens and daycare centers."
They said, "Having protected the childcare field for a long time with our own childcare philosophy, we are doing our best to create daycare centers where parents and infants are all happy and to provide opportunities for various experiences. However, with the current standard childcare fees set by the government, it is impossible to cover operating expenses and pay the salaries of teachers and directors."
In particular, they complained, "Despite the clear differences between urban and rural childcare environments, daycare center officials in rural areas are suffering due to wage payment standards that do not reflect realities such as rural population issues."
They also urged, "To eliminate conflicts and noise caused by the dual management departments of kindergartens and daycare centers and to realize a stable childcare policy under national responsibility through the integration of early childhood education and care."
Currently, early childhood education is managed by the Ministry of Education and metropolitan and provincial offices of education, while childcare is handled by local governments centered on the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
