Jeongeup-si to Invest 33.5 Billion Won in Modernizing Agricultural Production Infrastructure
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk Province, will invest 33.5 billion KRW this year to modernize agricultural infrastructure and secure agricultural water supply.
According to the city on the 17th, the agricultural production infrastructure modernization project consists of eight sectors: ▲ mechanized cultivation road expansion and paving project at 38 locations (14 km) with 1.8 billion KRW ▲ farm road paving project at 203 locations (80 km) with 8.9 billion KRW ▲ irrigation and drainage channel maintenance project at 211 locations (43 km) with 9.3 billion KRW ▲ agricultural infrastructure maintenance project for the Danpungmiin rice production complex at 42 locations (32 km) with 7.6 billion KRW ▲ repair and improvement of water control facilities at 11 locations with 1.3 billion KRW ▲ agricultural water supply measures for drought preparedness with 600 million KRW (3 hundred million KRW for reservoir management system establishment, 3 hundred million KRW for agricultural water development) ▲ reservoir dredging and pond creation project at 31 locations with 3.3 billion KRW ▲ new pumping station construction at 3 locations with 700 million KRW.
In particular, the city plans to focus on improving farming conditions and enhancing the value of the rice brand by maintaining agricultural infrastructure within the Danpungmiin rice production complex located in Shintaein-eup, Gobu-myeon, Yeongwon-myeon, and Gamgok-myeon areas.
Last year, the city invested 10.1 billion KRW to maintain irrigation and drainage channels and other facilities at 60 locations (44 km) within the production complex.
Additionally, by 2023, a total of 30.2 billion KRW (7.6 billion KRW annually) will be spent to maintain 161 locations (128 km) of irrigation and drainage channels and cultivation roads within the complex.
A city official stated, “We will implement the project before the farming season to drastically improve the farming environment for local residents. Once the agricultural production infrastructure maintenance is completed, we expect agricultural competitiveness and productivity to increase significantly.”
