LG Hausys Completes Commissioning of 3rd Production Line for Engineered Stone in the US
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] LG Hausys has completed the expansion of its engineered stone production line in the United States and is accelerating its penetration into the North American market.
LG Hausys announced on the 17th that it has invested a total of $50 million in its artificial marble factory located in Georgia, USA, to complete the third engineered stone production line and has begun full-scale mass production.
The newly completed third production line will produce engineered stone with an annual capacity of 350,000㎥. As a result, LG Hausys' total engineered stone production capacity will increase by 50% from the previous 700,000㎥ to 1,050,000㎥.
Engineered stone is a premium artificial marble product containing about 90% natural quartz-based materials. Its appearance is similar to natural marble, but it excels in workability and durability, making it widely used in kitchen furniture, washbasins, dining tables, various information desks and counters in commercial facilities such as hotels and hospitals, as well as walls.
LG Hausys plans to supply engineered stone products produced at the new third production line throughout North America. In late February, it launched full-scale marketing activities by showcasing various new products at a newly opened showroom in Orange County, California.
Kang Shin-woo, Executive Vice President of LG Hausys Surface Materials Division, said, "The North American region accounts for more than 70% of the global engineered stone market worth 3 trillion won and is a key market leading the premium artificial marble trend. With the significant increase in production capacity through the expansion of the third production line, we aim to secure a double-digit market share within five years and leap to the forefront of the North American engineered stone market."
