China Reports 21 New COVID-19 Cases... 20 Are Imported from Overseas (Update)
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] In China, 21 new COVID-19 cases and 13 deaths were reported in a single day on the 16th.
On the 17th, the National Health Commission of China (NHC) announced that as of midnight, there were 21 new confirmed COVID-19 cases. Among the 21 new cases, only one patient was from Wuhan, Hubei Province, known as the origin of COVID-19. This is the first time that only one new case has been reported in Wuhan, Hubei Province, where the highest concentration of patients is located.
The remaining 20 cases were all reported as imported cases from overseas. The new imported cases reported in one day included 9 in Beijing, 3 in Shanghai, 3 in Guangdong Province, 1 in Zhejiang Province, 1 in Shandong Province, 1 in Guangxi Province, 1 in Yunnan Province, and 1 in Shanxi Province. Including these, the total cumulative number of imported cases reported so far is 143.
The total number of confirmed COVID-19 patients in China is 80,881. Among them, 68,679 have recovered and been discharged, and 3,226 have died. The number of new deaths reported on the 16th was 13, including 12 in Hubei Province and 1 in Shanxi Province.
Currently, 8,976 confirmed patients are receiving treatment in hospitals, 128 are suspected cases, and 9,351 close contacts are under medical observation.

Outside mainland China, in the Greater China region, a total of 235 confirmed cases have been reported: 157 in Hong Kong (88 discharged, 4 deaths), 11 in Macau (10 discharged), and 67 in Taiwan (22 discharged, 1 death).
