Lee Gang-rae was confirmed as the party candidate by the Democratic Party of Korea Central Committee's Supreme Council resolution on the 13th and was simultaneously appointed as the regional committee chairman.
He said, "I sincerely thank the local residents and party members who elected me as the Democratic Party candidate in the recent primary," adding, "I will humbly serve the public sentiment and definitely resolve local issues."
He continued, "I offer my sincere consolation to preliminary candidate Park Hee-seung, who was my opponent in the primary, for the excellent competition, and I will actively reflect Park's good pledges and policies."
Furthermore, he emphasized the spirit of one team, saying, "Now that the primary is over, everyone must unite under the Democratic Party's flag to win the general election and contribute to the success of the Moon Jae-in administration and the reestablishment of the government."
In fact, immediately after the primary, Lee visited the office of Park Hee-seung's campaign and met with Park's supporters, showing leadership through communication and listening, and is known to be making efforts to organize the party.
