Geumcheon-gu Distributes 900 Sets of Eco-Friendly Box Gardens via Delivery
First-come, first-served total 900 sets for sale: 700 individual sets, 200 group sets... Apply from 16th to 20th via old website or visit District Office Park and Greenery Division... 8,000 KRW self-pay including delivery per set, shipped by April 5 after payment confirmation
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) is implementing the ‘Eco-friendly Box Garden Distribution Project,’ which allows residents to cultivate crops using residential spaces such as verandas and rooftops.
A total of 900 box garden sets will be distributed this time, consisting of 700 sets for individual distribution and 200 sets for group distribution. One box garden set includes a functional plastic box, 50 liters of soil mixed with compost, and 10 lettuce seedlings.
Reflecting last year’s demand, the district has added 200 more sets this year compared to last year (700 sets), with 100 additional sets for individuals and 100 for groups.
Applications for the box gardens can be submitted online through the Geumcheon-gu Office website’s integrated reservation system from the 16th to the 20th, or in person at the Parks and Greenery Division on the 11th floor of the district office. Any resident or organization based in the district can apply; individuals may apply for up to 4 sets, and groups up to 10 sets. The individual fee is 8,000 KRW per set, including delivery charges.
The list of recipients will be posted on the district website on the 23rd. Once the individual fee payment is confirmed, applicants can receive their sets via delivery by April 5th.
This year, as in the previous year, recipients will have the opportunity to choose from three types of boxes, each differing in function and design.
Additionally, to provide opportunities for elderly living alone to cultivate box gardens, the district plans to hold a separate companion garden distribution event on April 17th, providing two box garden sets to each elderly person living alone.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “Box gardens offer leisure opportunities for seniors and housewives and provide children with a valuable experience of agricultural activities. We hope everyone can enjoy the joy of harvest and experience nature within the city through cultivating box gardens.”
