[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Park Hee-eun] Seok Hyun-joon (29), a forward for French Ligue 2 club Troyes, tested positive for COVID-19 and has entered self-isolation.
French media outlets such as L'?quipe and Foot Mercato reported on the 13th (local time) that "Seok Hyun-joon received a positive result from the COVID-19 test."
Earlier, Troyes announced through official channels including the club's website that "two players showing suspected COVID-19 symptoms tested positive this evening," specifying that one is a professional team player and the other is a young player from the training center. They added, "Both players were immediately placed in self-isolation according to health authorities' guidelines."
Although Troyes did not disclose the players' names, local media reported that the club confirmed the professional player is Seok Hyun-joon.
Accordingly, L'?quipe stated that Seok Hyun-joon is the first player in the French professional football league to test positive for COVID-19, marking the first such case among Korean professional football players as well.
