Boseong-gun to Fully Pay Public Interest Allowance for Farmers and Fishermen in First Half Amid COVID-19 Spread
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Yongchul] Boseong-gun, Jeonnam announced on the 13th that it will pay the entire 5.4 billion won of the 'Jeonnam-type Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance,' which is being implemented for the first time this year to revitalize the local economy stagnated due to the spread of COVID-19, within the first half of the year.
Originally, the allowance was scheduled to be paid in two installments of 300,000 won each in May and October, but due to the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 aftermath, it was decided to advance the payment to the end of April and the end of May for early disbursement.
The entire allowance will be paid in the local currency, the 'Boseong Love Gift Certificate,' to revitalize the local economy. This early payment is expected to greatly help not only farmers and fishermen but also small business owners and self-employed people in the region.
Kim Cheol-woo, the mayor of Boseong-gun, said, "Following the circulation of 2 billion won worth of Boseong Love Gift Certificates at the end of March, adding the 5.4 billion won public interest allowance is expected to greatly stimulate local consumption," and added, "We will work on a two-track approach to both block COVID-19 and revitalize the local economy to alleviate the suffering of residents."

Meanwhile, the Jeonnam-type Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance is a policy implemented according to the ordinance on the payment of the Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance in Jeonnam Province, which was promulgated and enforced on October 17 last year, and the deliberation and resolution of the Farmer and Fisherman Public Interest Allowance Committee. It is the first in the nation to be implemented this year by Jeonnam Province and 22 cities and counties to actively address rural issues such as population decline and aging and to promote sustainable rural development.
