Trump-Abe Phone Talk... Discussing COVID-19 and Tokyo Olympics
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Amid the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), NHK reported that U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo held a phone conference on the morning of the 13th Korea time.
According to the report, the conference took place from 9 a.m. for 50 minutes, during which they presumably discussed cooperation measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and exchanged views on the economic situation.
During the phone conference, discussions about the Tokyo Olympics also took place. President Trump stated at the White House on the 12th U.S. time that, as a personal opinion, it would be better to postpone the Tokyo Olympics for one year rather than holding it without spectators. Prime Minister Abe requested cooperation regarding the Olympics, and Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga Yoshihide stated that there was no mention of postponing the Olympics.
