Gyeonggi-do Intensifies Crackdown on Agricultural Waste
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will operate a joint inspection team until the end of this month to prevent illegal burning in rural areas within the province.
Since December last year, as part of the seasonal management system to reduce fine dust, the province has formed a joint inspection team composed of the agricultural, environmental, and forestry departments to conduct crackdowns and guidance activities once a week to prevent illegal burning in rural areas within the province.
In particular, this month, considering it a period with high fine dust emissions due to stagnant air and the burning of agricultural waste, the joint inspection team activities will be expanded to 2 to 4 times a week.
The inspection team checks illegal burning of agricultural by-products (biological by-products such as rice, barley, corn, soybeans, chili peppers, sesame, and fruit trees), waste vinyl, and household garbage, and imposes fines according to relevant laws when violations are detected. They also conduct publicity and guidance activities to eliminate illegal burning.
