View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The Ichon Police Substation in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, whose land and building were purchased by a company affiliated with lawyer Go Seung-deok, will be closed.
According to the police on the 12th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has decided to close the Ichon Police Substation of the Yongsan Police Station on the 30th of next month.
The closure of the Ichon Police Substation is due to the failure of lease contract extension negotiations between Yongsan-gu and Market Day, a company affiliated with lawyer Go. The Yongsan Police Station plans to hold a residents' briefing session regarding this matter soon.
A total of 27 police officers are currently working at the Ichon Police Substation, and they will be reassigned to two nearby substations.
The police expect that there will be no security gaps as the personnel will be redistributed to nearby substations.
Market Day, where lawyer Go's wife serves as an executive, purchased the Ichon Police Substation site and the Ichon Small Park land together in 2007 for 4.2 billion KRW. Market Day requested the National Police Agency to relocate the Ichon Police Substation for land utilization, but when this was not accepted, they filed a lawsuit. After winning the case through the second trial, Market Day subsequently purchased the Ichon Police Substation building as well.
[Correction] In the article titled “Ichon Police Substation Purchased by Lawyer Go Seung-deok Couple... Ultimately Closed” published on the social section of our website on March 14, it was reported that “the closure of the Ichon Police Substation was due to the failure of lease contract extension negotiations between Yongsan-gu and Market Day, a company affiliated with lawyer Go.”

However, upon fact-checking, it was found that the purchaser was not lawyer Go and his wife but the company where lawyer Go's wife is an executive. The Yongsan Police Station leased the building from Market Day with a right to use it for up to 10 years without rent increase. However, Yongsan-gu notified the Yongsan Police Station that relocating the substation was inevitable to use the substation building as a park management office, leading to the relocation. It was also confirmed that Market Day did not request any rent increase or relocation of the substation. We hereby correct the record.
