The online concert "Hero" is a live streaming performance prepared by the Seoul Philharmonic to deliver a message of comfort and hope to the people suffering from the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). It also carries the meaning of support for the medical staff, public officials, and volunteers who are fighting on the front lines of quarantine.
In this online concert, the Seoul Philharmonic will perform Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 "Eroica" conducted by assistant conductor Wilson Ng. The piece was selected to symbolize that not only medical staff and quarantine workers but all Korean people fighting against COVID-19 are "heroes."
Kang Eun-kyung, CEO of the Seoul Philharmonic, said, "Although we could not prepare an audience, the Seoul Philharmonic has prepared an 'encouragement and support performance' on the online stage for you. The strength of Korea lies in its people. We have experience overcoming hardships. You are the main actors of such capabilities. We thank you for your great dedication. We hope you watch the online concert 'Hero' from the most comfortable place for you."
