Justice Party Candidates File Lawsuit to Cancel Mirae Hangukdang Registration, Calling It an "Illegal Private Organization"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Proportional representation candidates of the Justice Party have filed a lawsuit to cancel the registration of Mirae Hangukdang (Future Korea Party).
On the 12th, 27 candidates including Ryu Ho-jeong stated, "We are filing a main lawsuit at the Seoul Administrative Court to cancel the Central Election Management Committee's approval of Mirae Hangukdang's party registration, along with a request to suspend the effect and enforcement of the registration approval until the main lawsuit verdict is announced."
The legal team representing the lawsuit is led by Choi Byung-mo, former chairman of the Lawyers for a Democratic Society (Minbyun) and a lawyer at Yangjae Law Firm, with lawyers including Oh Young-jung, former chair of the Human Rights Committee of the Seoul Bar Association (Se-gwang Law Firm), Park Gap-joo (Jihyang Law Firm), Kim Woong (Yeyul Law Firm), Ryu Ha-kyung (Human Law Office), Yoon Sung-bong (Human Law Office), Shin Jang-sik (Minbon Law Firm), Park Sang-jin (Ugong Law Firm), Jo Young-kwan (Deoksu Law Firm), Sung Chorok (Bit Law Office), Kim Sang-ha (Citizen Law Firm), and Lee Eun-woo (Jihyang Law Firm).
The lawsuit support group includes Choi Jeong-hak, president of the Democratic Law Study Association (professor at Korea National Open University), Han Sang-hee, professor at Konkuk University Law School, Lee Ho-young, lecturer at Konkuk University, and Kim Jeong-hwan, lawyer at Dodam Law Firm.
The Justice Party candidates pointed out, "Article 8 of the Constitution guarantees the freedom to establish political parties while stating that ‘Political parties must be democratic in their purpose, organization, and activities, and must have the necessary organization to participate in the political will formation of the people.’ However, it is a well-known fact that Mirae Hangukdang was created solely under the direction of Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the United Future Party, in preparation for the 21st general election under the mixed-member proportional representation system."
They argued, "Mirae Hangukdang is an unconstitutional organization with undemocratic purpose, organization, and activities. It violates the constitutional principle of equal elections, damages the political choice rights of the people, and distorts the value of voting rights."
They also criticized, "Mirae Hangukdang is a ‘commanded party’ hastily formed with human and material support necessary for party establishment, such as the establishment of district parties, by Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the United Future Party. It is an illegal private organization, not a voluntary organization of the people."

Regarding the Central Election Management Committee, they accused it of dereliction of duty. Despite the Political Parties Act prohibiting dual party membership, the committee did not examine whether members of Mirae Hangukdang held dual memberships and still approved the central party registration, which they said is unacceptable.
