Gwangju City Maintains 35.8km of Sewer Pipes Over 20 Years Old in Preparation for Underground Compass
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 12th that it is carrying out maintenance projects targeting aging sewer pipes over 20 years old to prevent ground subsidence (sinkholes) and resolve drainage problems during heavy rain.
Based on the detailed investigation results of aging sewer pipes conducted from 2015 to 2017, Gwangju selected emergency repair sections and general repair sections according to the Ministry of Environment's "Manual for Detailed Investigation of Sewer Pipes Responding to Ground Subsidence," and has been prioritizing maintenance of emergency repair sections since 2017.
Considering the surrounding conditions of the aging sewer pipes, the project is divided into 17 km of excavation and culvert cross-section repairs and 18.8 km of non-excavation repairs, with a total of 35.8 km of aging sewer pipes being maintained with a project budget of 25.2 billion KRW by next year.
Upon completion of the aging sewer pipe maintenance project, it is expected to greatly contribute to improving citizens' living environment by preventing sinkhole occurrences caused by ground subsidence in advance, alleviating citizens' anxiety, and preventing environmental pollution caused by damaged aging sewer pipes.
