President Moon's approval rating drops moderately to 44.8%... Democratic Party's rising trend also halted [Realmeter]
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] A public opinion poll revealed that President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for his administration has dropped significantly to the mid-40% range. The Democratic Party of Korea, which had seen its approval ratings rise for three consecutive weeks, also turned downward.
According to Realmeter's survey conducted on behalf of tbs from the 9th to the 11th, the positive evaluation of President Moon's administration fell by 3.1 percentage points from the previous week's aggregate to 44.8%, the agency announced on the 12th. Conversely, negative evaluations rose by 2.6 percentage points to 51.3%.
In the first week of March, the gap had narrowed to within the margin of error (0.8 percentage points), but within a week, the gap widened again to the 6 percentage point range. Negative evaluations have been higher than positive evaluations for nine consecutive weeks.
By region, positive evaluations dropped by 7.6 percentage points in Gyeonggi·Incheon (47.0%) and by 4.8 percentage points in Daegu·Gyeongbuk (27.9%), continuing the downward trend. By age group, the 30s (43.9%) saw a significant drop of 10.7 percentage points, and the 40s (56.8%) also fell by 4.5 percentage points.
Additionally, the overall decline in approval ratings was led by a 4-6 percentage point drop among moderates (35.6%), office workers (51.2%), and homemakers (36.0%).
Regarding party support, the Democratic Party recorded 40.2%, down 1.5 percentage points from the previous week. The United Future Party rose by 1.3 percentage points to 32.5%. The People’s Party declined by 0.1 percentage points to 4.6%, and the Justice Party fell by 0.8 percentage points to 4.1%. Other parties recorded the following: Liberty Republican Party 2.6%, Minsheng Party 1.9%, and Minjung Party 1.3%.
Meanwhile, in the 21st general election proportional representation party voting intention survey, the Democratic Party's support dropped by 0.2 percentage points to 36.4%. Support for the Future Korea Party rose by 0.2 percentage points to 28.9%.
The Justice Party recorded 7.8%, down 1.1 percentage points, and the People’s Party recorded 6.1%, down 0.9 percentage points, while other parties remained below 3%.
