Gangdong-gu Conducts Disinfection at Over 1,000 Locations Including Nursing Homes, Academies, and Bus Stops
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is putting all its efforts into disinfecting multi-use facilities frequently used by residents such as the elderly and youth to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
First, 174 locations including senior centers, nursing homes, and care facilities, where immunity is weak among the elderly, are being intensively disinfected.
Professional disinfection companies are commissioned to carry out top-level disinfection, and considering these facilities are for the elderly, eco-friendly disinfectants certified by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety are used during the process.
The entire indoor space, as well as frequently touched areas such as sinks, furniture, and door handles, are sterilized and disinfected.
These facilities are either temporarily closed or restrict outside visitors as a preemptive measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The district plans to provide at least one additional professional disinfection support when these facilities resume operation after the current disinfection.
Additionally, disinfection efforts are strengthened in detailed areas used by residents. To ensure residents can safely use public restrooms, disinfection is conducted at 32 public restrooms. Special disinfection focusing on frequently touched areas such as toilet lids, flush buttons, and washbasins is performed twice daily.
Disinfection is also continuously carried out at about 840 locations including bus stops, traditional markets, daycare centers, and local children’s centers.
Furthermore, since the 6th, Gangdong-gu has established and started operating the ‘Academy and Private Tutoring Center Self-Disinfection Support Center’ on the 4th floor of the Lifelong Learning Center (395 Gucheonmyeon-ro, Gangdong-gu). This measure aims to strengthen disinfection at academies frequently visited by youth.
The center operates Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed on Sundays), lending disinfection equipment and providing disinfectants to academies and private tutoring centers that wish to conduct self-disinfection.
Guidelines containing disinfection methods using household bleach for everyday use are also provided. To ensure the safety of youth, the district plans to actively support about 1,220 academies and private tutoring centers to conduct disinfection regularly.
