Democratic Party Strategically Nominates Hong Seong-guk, Former Mirae Asset Daewoo CEO, in Sejong Gap
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] On the 11th, the Democratic Party of Korea strategically nominated Hong Seong-guk, former president of Mirae Asset Daewoo, as a candidate for Sejong Gap in the April 15 general election.
The Democratic Party announced that at the Supreme Council meeting held that morning, they approved the strategic constituency primary candidates and strategic nominations, according to Lee Geun-hyung, head of strategic planning.
Sejong is the constituency of Democratic Party leader Lee Hae-chan, who declared he would not run. Due to recent electoral district delimitation, this general election divided Sejong into two constituencies: Sejong Gap and Sejong Eul. Sejong Eul's candidate was decided through a three-person primary among former Sejong City Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs Kang Jun-hyun, former Prime Minister's Press Secretary Lee Kang-jin, and lawyer Lee Young-sun.
The Democratic Party also decided to strategically nominate lawyer Kim Han-gyu, who worked at Kim & Chang law firm, for Seoul Gangnam-byeong. This area was previously designated as a youth priority strategic district. Kim is 45 years old, meeting the Democratic Party's youth criteria.
Additionally, the Democratic Party decided to hold a re-primary through a 100% general public opinion poll for Gwangju Gwangsan-eul, where a retrial was accepted.
Meanwhile, with the confirmation of Hong's strategic nomination on this day, the positions of all 19 recruited talents of the Democratic Party were finalized. Twelve received strategic nominations in constituencies, five, including Professor Choi Hye-young of Gangdong University, applied for proportional representation nominations. Two, adjunct professor Choi Ki-il of Konkuk University and Mittelstand CEO Jo Dong-in, decided not to run in the general election.

Lee explained, "The two who decided not to run will take on roles in the party or government in other forms in the future," adding, "We coordinated and concluded based on their willingness and intention to run in constituency elections, or their goal and determination to enter the National Assembly even through proportional representation, aligning with their desires and circumstances."
