'My Tree Ownership' Online Campaign... Korea Forest Service Hosts Seedling Exchange Coupon Giveaway Event
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Forest Service is converting the previously on-site ‘My Tree Festival’ event into an online campaign this year. This is a kind of innovative measure to revitalize the seedling market, which has been stagnant due to the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The Korea Forest Service announced on the 10th that it will hold the online version of the My Tree Festival event ahead of the ‘75th Arbor Day’ this year.
The event proceeds by participants accessing the online homepage (www.2020mytree.info), applying to receive a ‘Gurukon,’ and then using the Gurukon sent by the Korea Forest Service to purchase seedlings at one of the 115 nationwide tree markets operated by the Korea Forest Cooperative by the 10th of next month.
‘Gurukon’ is a compound word of the Korea Forest Service’s own character ‘Groot’ and emoticon, created as an online voucher to be used for this event.
Anyone can participate in the event in one or two rounds. However, the number of Gurukons issued is limited to 5,000, and each person can participate only once. The first round will select 3,000 people on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 1 p.m. on the 11th, and the second round will select 2,000 people starting at 1 p.m. on the 18th.
The Korea Forest Service will review errors and duplicates in the submitted mobile phone numbers during this period and send the Gurukon via text message starting the day after the application. Applications received on Fridays and weekends will be sent collectively on Monday.
The locations of the tree markets where Gurukons can be used can be checked on the Korea Forest Service website and the event homepage.
Also, since the species sold vary by seedling market, if an individual has a specific species in mind, it is advisable to call the seedling market they plan to visit to confirm whether that species is available.
