[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is offering public urban garden plots for lease to provide residents with opportunities for healing through gardening.
The target applicants are residents of Nowon-gu, with one plot per household (or organization). There are a total of 442 plots available, including general and special leases.
The general lease includes 312 plots across four locations: Bulam Eoullim Park (95-336 Sanggye-dong), Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Garden (in front of Hagye 2-dong Community Center), Nowon Healing Garden (2235 Byeollae-dong, Namyangju City), and Everyone's Garden Plot (Nowon Eco Center, Sanggye-dong).
The Bulamsan garden has 93 plots, with a usage fee of 30,000 KRW per plot (5㎡). The Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail garden has 95 plots and operates in three size types.
Type A has 26 plots at 40,000 KRW per plot (7.2㎡), Type B has 17 plots at 30,000 KRW per plot (5.76㎡), and Type C has 52 plots at 20,000 KRW per plot (4.32㎡). The Nowon Healing Garden has 100 plots with a fee of 50,000 KRW per plot (9.9㎡), and the last, Everyone's Garden, has 24 plots at 20,000 KRW per plot (4.29㎡).
The special lease is at Sanggye-dong Happy Garden (1314 Sanggye-dong) with 130 plots, each costing 50,000 KRW per plot (9.9㎡). Due to limited parking and inconvenient public transportation, this site is leased only to residents of Sanggye 1-dong.
Applications can be submitted through the Nowon-gu Office website until the 12th of this month. Results will be announced on the 17th on the website, and selected applicants will be individually notified of payment and deposit methods. Failure to pay by the deadline will result in cancellation of the lease and replacement by a standby applicant. Cancellations and refunds are possible until the end of March.
Applicants who neglect their leased garden plots for more than two months will be excluded from applying for garden plots leased by Nowon-gu for the next two years.
The district has also prioritized 80 plots separately for warm winter donation supporters, volunteers, contributors to district administration, households with preschool children, large families, North Korean defectors, and other socially disadvantaged groups.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “We hope residents will enjoy healing time through gardening in nature, tasting the fruits of their sweat and effort.”
