'Eco Traveler' Eco-Friendly Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The lifestyle hotel brand L7 of Lotte Hotel announced on the 10th that it will launch the 'Eco Traveler Project,' the first of its kind in the domestic hotel industry, in collaboration with eco-fashion brand Pleats Mama to create bags by recycling PET bottles used by guests.
The project goes beyond providing eco-friendly bags to customers; it also involves customer participation. From the 16th of this month to June 30th, at L7 Hotels in Gangnam, Hongdae, and Myeongdong, guests who bring PET bottles with caps and plastic removed along with an entry ticket to the front desk according to the mission sheet in their rooms will receive a luggage tag, an essential travel item, as a gift. The PET bottles collected over four months will be transformed into eco-friendly bags after July. In August, gifts will also be given to customers through a raffle of the entry tickets.
In 2018, L7 Hotel also collaborated with Pleats Mama to produce the L7 Signature Bag, gaining much attention as a 'good collaboration' in the hotel industry. Pleats Mama’s eco-friendly bags are made using yarn extracted from 16 500mL PET bottles. L7 Hotel provided 300 bags made by recycling 4,800 PET bottles to its guests.
Based on the collaboration with L7 Hotel, Pleats Mama is accelerating the localization of eco-friendly materials. Their method of producing fabric in the exact desired shape leaves no fabric scraps, and their eco-friendly values combined with practical designs have gained popularity among consumers of various age groups.

Meanwhile, L7 Hotel is conducting the 4R activity 'Re:Think' eco-friendly campaign, which stands for not buying unnecessary items, reducing waste, reusing, and recycling. They are striving to reduce plastic and vinyl waste by replacing plastic straws with paper ones and using paper packaging materials, implementing an eco-friendly system throughout hotel operations.
