Healing Through Psychological Counseling for the Hardships of Self-Quarantined Individuals
Songpa-gu Provides Psychological Counseling for COVID-19 Self-Quarantine Cases... Offers Psychological Treatment Services Even After Quarantine Release
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) is providing psychological counseling to help COVID-19 self-quarantined individuals cope with emotional difficulties.
As of March 7, there are 74 self-quarantined individuals in the district. These are people who have been in contact with confirmed COVID-19 cases but show no or mild symptoms, and are quarantined for two weeks considering the incubation period.
However, the district explained that due to isolation from the outside world, complex psychological symptoms may appear, such as restrictions on economic activities and daily life, fear and anxiety about infection, and concerns about stigma.
Accordingly, since February 11, the district has been conducting psychological counseling for self-quarantined individuals. Two mental health professionals from the Songpa-gu Mental Health Welfare Center have been dispatched to the Songpa-gu Public Health Center to provide psychological support via phone consultations.
In cases where counseling reveals crisis situations such as decreased ability to perform daily activities or threats to eating and sleeping patterns, on-site counseling is conducted together with the infectious disease prevention team. If hospitalization is required, support is provided for admission to nationally designated hospitals.
If psychological treatment is deemed necessary even after quarantine is lifted, the district plans to assist a healthy return to daily life through professional mental health services by linking with local psychological treatment institutions.
Mayor Park Seong-su of Songpa-gu said, “The most difficult psychological aspect for self-quarantined individuals is the gaze of those around them,” adding, “Many residents are going through tough times due to COVID-19, so I hope everyone shows tolerance and consideration. We will mobilize all administrative resources to fully support residents’ safety, health, and a swift return to normal life.”
