[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] AP News reported that the third U.S. military member infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has been confirmed in the United States.
According to the report, Jonathan Hoffman, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Defense, stated on Twitter on the 7th (local time) that "a U.S. Marine stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, tested positive for COVID-19 today and is currently receiving treatment." It was explained that the Marine had been overseas on official duty and recently returned to the United States.
Spokesperson Hoffman added, "The White House and Secretary of Defense Mark Esper have been briefed on the matter."

Including this Marine, a total of three U.S. military personnel have been infected with COVID-19 so far. Previously, one soldier each from the U.S. Forces Korea and the U.S. forces stationed in Italy were confirmed positive, and this is the first case of a U.S. military member infected within the United States.
