According to Chonnam National University on the 5th, Bio3S Co., Ltd. (CEO Professor Kim Doo-woon of the Department of Agricultural Food and Life Sciences at Chonnam National University), jointly founded with the Korea Basic Science Institute, recently received certification from the Zoonotic Infectious Disease Research Institute that its virus-specific hand sanitizer ‘Noro-X’ has antiviral efficacy of over 99.9% against the coronavirus (hCoV-229E).
In the certificate of efficacy for the ‘antiviral test on the active ingredients of the analyzed material,’ the institute confirmed that “the ‘fermented filtered extract of jack bean seeds’ requested for analysis by Bio3S Co., Ltd. has an efficacy of over 99.9% in neutralizing human coronavirus 229E.”
The newly developed ‘Noro-X’ is a hand sanitizer in which the plant protein ‘con A’ contained in jack beans binds to the virus to neutralize or wash it away.
Its technology for extracting without toxicity and excellent purification technology have also been recognized, being selected as one of the top 100 national research and development achievements (2017) and obtaining the New Technology Certification (NET, 2018) from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
Bio3S Co., Ltd. donated large quantities of ‘Noro-X’ to major international events such as the 2019 Gwangju World Swimming Championships and the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics to ensure safe international competitions, and on February 27th, donated 1,000 units to CTS Christian Broadcasting Station to be used for marginalized groups struggling with COVID-19, actively fulfilling its social role.
Professor Kim Doo-woon said, “Viruses stuck on hands do not easily come off, as if embedded in a deep valley, so they must be washed off with an effective cleanser,” and added, “We will seek approval for Noro-X as an antiviral quasi-drug and veterinary quasi-drug so that it can be used to prevent the spread of viruses not only in Korea but also worldwide.”
